Silence Is Sometimes Part of the Problem

Many of society’s problems do not continue because there are no solutions, but because we do not talk about them enough.

End-of-life suffering, the rising cost of healthcare, mental exhaustion, financial pressure, climate change, loneliness, injustice, and even systems that slowly reduce the quality of life, often continue quietly in the background.

Society tends to focus more on things that create excitement, entertainment, or competition: quarterly profits, rankings, breaking news, celebrities, or the daily political race. And naturally, when attention, time, and energy are constantly directed toward those things, systems are built to optimize them even further. But many of the more important issues remain in the shadows, not because they are unimportant, but because talking about them can feel uncomfortable, complicated, or even frightening.

Some systems survive precisely because people do not talk about them enough. Sometimes silence becomes part of the problem itself.

Real change often begins when people are willing to bring difficult subjects into the conversation.
